Jane Addams, founder of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (of which I’m a proud Lifetime Member), said:
Old-fashioned ways which no longer apply to changed conditions are a snare in which the feet of women have always become readily entangled.
I feel this. We have let ourselves be seduced by mass media, our ideas about ourselves and our “beauty” have been defined by corporate advertising, and we have run ourselves ragged trying to compete with film and tv images of strong women. We feel emancipated when we lash out at women we don’t like and frame them in the same misogynist terms we abhor when pointed at ourselves.
Let’s take our collective soul back and feed the world from our authentic spirits. Let’s not have our heads turned either by criticism or praise. Let’s do it and know it’s working because we feel it in our hearts.
